Interactions

Connecting Dots is the center of interactions. The building has physical interactions with other projects. But it has mainly interactions with the activities taking place in other projects, the excisting buildings on the harbor and in the village Heiplaat. Connecting Dots will be the place that glues all the activities together with the exhibition and information center.

Connecting Dots connects physically to the Transport Hub, Islands and Continuality. Visitors arriving by boat dock at the Transport Hub. From there visitors can walk to Connecting Dots over a landscape set by the Continuality project. They can go directly to the RDM-area in case they work there or know to find their way around.

Otherwise they can go in or up Connecting Dots which showcases all the projects, companies and institutions present at the RDM. Once they know where to go they can either walk or use the Islands to go to their destination. When they want more specific information about the business part of the RDM: possible investments and future developments in and around the RDM, they can directly visit Ez RDM. This information center is directly connected to Connecting Dots.

Interactions between project and buildings

CD is very open and accessible; welcoming the visitors of the RDM area. It's a great display for the RDM Campus to inform the general public about their achievements and ongoing projects. The starting point of a journey through the RDM Campus.

The ICDuBo already fulfills most of these aspects. However, people unfamiliar with the institute or area don't know about it's wonderful program and the architecture doesn't invite people inside. A missed opportunity to attract and connect with people other than the ones that go there with a specific goal in mind. ICDuBo has an exposition space about 2000 m2, they have the intention to expand, but did not got permission of the owner of the building. Because of a big renovation, they have to leave the building next year. CD gives the possibility for ICDuBO to expand.

The pier will be an important connection for people arriving and departing from the Transport Hub. Both the Continuality project as Connecting Dots join these two together.

Interactions between project and people

The aqualiner makes the connection between the RDM and Schiedam and the center of Rotterdam. Now the Connecting Dots is situated on the main route from the docking place of the aqualiner and the harbor, there is a lot of interaction between all people who enter and leave the RDM and Connecting Dots. The shortest way of interaction is walking through the building and looking through the windows to the exposition. A more profounding way of interaction is going through an opening and visiting the easy accessible exposition about the RDM area, the shop and snack or the open library. The most intensive way of interaction is visiting the specific activities of the ICDubo. See Activities on this page.

Connecting gives the probability to have a more intensive way of interaction. Other projects have the probability to display themselves, and visitors can give feedback. Visitors can give their input about the RDM and take workshops. By displaying the work of local artists and students, the people working at the RDM and living at the Heijplaat can reconnect with the harbor.
