Structure

As the uniqueness of this landscape is created by flexible combination and spacial staggering relations of those floating units, the structure of the units is the key to achieve this goal.

Therefore, we develop our structure design around these 3 research questions below:

  Q1: In what kind of structure the curvature shape can be exactly expressed;
  Q2: Due to the extreme windy weather in RDM, how to make sure that the unit floats above the water without strong sway;
  Q3:In what way the units connect to each other.

After some researches, we find that steel structure is the best choice for fitting the complex shape. As the first image below illustrates, there are several layers compose the unit, the bottom layer is similar to a container which is filled with water.
