Re-inventing delta technology

As mentioned before the building should breath ground breaking technology. To acclomplish this you've to create an environment where people are getting inspired. A place which promotes and which they associate themselfs with. The building is made of the most advanced materials and production techniques, one is inside technology. Navigating exterior as well as the interior feels like walking in the exterior/interior of a living installation / creature. You are inside technology.

The design has a dynamic appearance, the project explores notions of flow and interaction. Below you see some pictures which really grabs the desired appearance. The cladding of the façade consists of shiny tinted and open-jointed acryclic panels with no visible fixing points on the cladding elements. One of the main purposes of the project is that it explores notions of flow and interaction.

Self-organizational patterns

The research aim is to develop an overall infrastructure for the circulation for the DOK-Wellness-centre and a part of the surrounding environment. The research is made in the Maya hair dynamics engine which is used as a tool for the creation of self-organizational line patterns. Several tests were developed in the program in order to understand the behaviour of flexible and semi-rigid lines within fields that was depending on the application of external and internal forces. Maya’s hair dynamic tool achieved a parametrically tuned bundling of the cross referenced connections of the nodes within the infrastructural web. The resultant path system exhibits the basic properties of Frei Otto’s minimizing detour network. Maya hair-dynamic simulates a minimised detour net. The path network is generated with a digital woolthread model. The set-up registers the multitude of incoming corridors and bundles them into larger corridors affording larger parcels.

The facade

On the interaction page the concept of the adaptive facade is showed. It is the principal on which way the facade interacts to the solar radiation. The pattern on the surface follows the dynamics of the the surface which contributes to the articulation of the shape. The radius of the openings in the facade are first affected by the curvature of the surface. Where the curvature is heigher the openings have also a bigger radius. Beside this determination of the radius, the radius is also affected by the amount of solar radiation, when a window is gaining more radiation the radius of the opening will shrink. You can see some explorations of the design of the facade below.
