In the framework housing units are designed according to relations to their closest neighbors in order to offer the best conditions to each unit. Lofts between Nurbs curves enclose the units for privacy and insulation.

Because the personal forms of spaces in which the students prefer to live, the campus will have a look of diversity within the open house framework.

The main idea behind the units and the clustering is that clusters are capable of changing form over time. Styled curves are supposed to respond to temporary and future needs of the unit and cluster. They are thereby capable of forming new curves for additional spaces such as an inner court for a small cluster. Those spaces could host potential relax activities or food production in greenhouses. Hereby the great amount of open space or surface facade gets reduces and the project responds to needs of NewsPARKs or HYDRO^3.

The feel of the project should both embody the ambitions of the Learn and Play environment, as the lifestyle of the students. However, there has to be acknowledged that the voxelized structure plays a big role in the feel of the overall structure. All the outer and inner pointing edges of pixels could feel slightly defensive and rough. To break this, the interior edges are rounded and the feel of the red cedar wood should make it more warm and friendly.

Look

OH campusrender.jpg The form-language of the project will be in voxelized arch-like forms. The size of the 3D-pixels will be differentiated according to the need of movement in the spaces. This should give a differentiated look to the whole. The shape of the whole structure is mainly formed by the activities and the furniture of the students. Yet, Open House can look very different from season to season. One could imagine an very open structure in summer while in winter the students occupy less space. Because the personal forms of spaces in which the students prefer to live, the campus will have a look of diversity within the open house framework.

Feel

Render111.jpg The feel of the project should both embody the ambitions of the Learn and Play environment, as the lifestyle of the students.

Movement

Untitled3.gif The movement of the components will be slow and thereby hardly visible. That's mainly due to the maximal needed speed of 3600mm / 900s = 4 mm/s. This is comparable to the speed of a snail. However, all the elements together will form a bigger gesture which would be visible. Timewise, it could be compared with a fast sunrise.
