WHAT? WHY? HOW?
What?
The project’s main function is to create an oasis where the individual or a small group of people can find a place to relax and escape from the hectic RDM site into a calm and tranquil natural environment. The project is designed in such a way to accommodate different group sizes of people, ranging from crowd to individual. These spaces are all open to the public, and the spaces will be chosen naturally according to the number of users.
These landscaped platforms will not only serve as mere relaxation/entertainment areas. By including specific species of vegetation, grey water from the river is pumped up to the top, and gets filtered as it percolates down the platforms. This would create excessive clean water then the project actually needs, hence also supporting the neighboring projects with clean water.
Why?
I researching about the site, it could be easily noticed that natural areas are very limited in the surrounding. We believe that there is the need for the people to cut off from the RDM and have a place which is easily accessible. Furthermore the idea of filtering the water further strengthens the need for such a project. With the introduction of the new additional projects, the demand for clean water will increase drastically.
How?
How can a public space also convey a sense of ownership?
Developments
In the second week the concepts has been further developed; the focus of this project is to create an oasis which would contrast the surrounding environment. The aim is to come up with a way to provide the inhabitants/visitors of the area with a warm environment where they could swim and enjoy fresh and clean water all year long. The concept has further developed, into a water filtering system with the idea of 'oyster-tecture'.
