After the site visit it is clear that there is a need for student amenities on site. The students need a space that is theirs, where they can relax, study, meet or even party. The 'Student Hub' will provide the students with a space that is flexible and determined by them. The facility will not only be open to students. This new urban space will be used by locals and tourists alike. The facility will also act as a transition zone between other developments on site. The project interacts with a number of other actors and will provide a pathway between elements. It can be noted that the site, as it exists today, is extremely baron. There is nothing to soften the harsh industrial surrounds. Project 4 will endeavour to deal with this, whilst still keeping the integrity / history of the site alive.

Links to existing OBJECTS:

It is connected to the RDM campus. The students and teachers of RDM need somewhere to frequent after school hours. The removable seating that exists outside of the RDM campus. These seating areas show an attempt to create a recreational / relaxation space for students on site however they have been neglected and as a result are not used as they should be. They also have no shelter so don't offer a suitable space to frequent in the winter months. The RDM student Mike stated that there was no activity for students on site after school hours. There were no student amenities or places that could be enjoyed by classmates. Links to other DEVELOPMENTS:

The Improvement System will provide a link for the students of RDM, tourists and commuters that utilise the ferry service and locals in the surrounding areas. The project will supply these groups with a sporting facility, a cafe and some classrooms. The Student Hub will physically connect to the improvement system and act as an extension to the project. The Student Hub will connect on the upper floor of the Improvement System - where the classrooms for RDM are situated. Around this linkage point, an informal reading / relaxation / meeting point will be situated. Created and seamless transition into the Student Hub project. The Student Hub will also physically connect to the Market (Reizen Drijvende Markt). The Improvement System, Student Hub and the Market will combine to create a long stretch of public space. The Market will draw in different types of people, including locals. By connecting to the Market, locals will use the Student Hub space. People will be drawn into the whole precinct and along the meandering arms. The linkage point to the market will see informal eating zones where people may buy food and sit and eat in the open space on the water. Connection to Project 5 as it is interested in extending the RDM campus and improving the day to day experience of the students. Project 4 is also aiming at achieving this. Connection to DwellingGrower, as this deals with student housing. Perhaps there can be a physical link between our buildings to create traffic as well as integrate the day students with ones that live on site in this new development. The project Temporary Pavilion is also of interest to Project 4. The temporary pavilion has the ability to lend space to the student hub for an event.
