Project 09-interactions 1.jpg

Situated at the northern edge of the port, the transport hub has direct connection to the shipping line and physical connections to the landscaping project Continuality. On the other hand, the hub has a dock on the south for the inner-port transport Islands. Passengers, ferries, bikes and all the other transport means act as the instrumentality connecting the city, the site, the projects, and the people.

1. Instrumentality/agents have various feature and behavior

The most influential difference is between sizes.

Different "decks" are set on different levels to adjust to various transport means water level o.oom / "The island" 0.90m / Yacht 1.80m / Ferry 2.40m / Cruise ferry 1.80&8.10m / Helicopter 13.80m

2. System thinking: Frequency,Carriage capacity and time table

This part of work start from the context and set up the scenario of the project.

  • This ferry access is the only regular shipping access on site at present. The whole line takes approximately 25min. The ferry has a maximum capacity of 150 passengers, and the number of passengers changes as the chart below. The average amount of passengers is 850/day on weekdays and 420/day on weekends.

New transport demands

New projects on RDM site generate new transport demands. The example data below came from several key projects with ability to attract considerable non-local passengers.

  • Babel Tower [[1]]: 50 fixed residents, 200-1000 daily visitors;

Rejuvenative Sandwich [[2]]: 3000㎡,500 daily visitors;

NEW sPARKs [[3]]: 30 hotel rooms, 40 residents, 100 visitors;

lusthof [[4]]: 80 daily(night) visitors;

  • Reizen Drijvende Markt [[5]]: 1000 daily visitors;

Variations [[6]]: 100-200 daily visitors;

DwellingGrower [[7]]: 40 fixed residents;

Water Morphs [[8]]: 100-200 daily visitors;

  • Floating Theater [[9]]: 500-600 per show.

After all it is nearly impossible to predict the a precised number. But considering the needs of the projects with "*", especially the Theater, the transport amount within 30min would better exceed 600. That is, if 1 ferry carries 150 passengers, we 4 ferries in half an hour, at least in rush hours. And project like Lusthof attract special visitors at certain time. Let me see if I can get them some international tourists!

New shipping lines system

  • New international line A-C: Hook of Holland to RDM, depart at 2:30p.m. at Hook of Holland, 2.5 hours trip, arrive at RDM at 5:00p.m., Cruise ferry

New inland line C-H: RDM to Schiedam, departure at every :05 and :35, 7:05 to 11:35

Watertaxi 2: Maastaxi on 30 docks, 7:00 to 0:00, 12 passengers, 60 km/h
