Project09-person(s)

Connection to Vincent(engineering staff) [1]

- A engineering staff lives in Rotterdam Central. He pointed out beside a lack of commercial and entertainment functions, transportation remains as a big problem. This implies the local needs and potentials for a transportation hub.

After the interview, a dig into the transport system has been carried out......

New transport demands

New projects on RDM site generate new transport demands. The example data below came from several key projects with ability to attract considerable non-local passengers.

  • Babel Tower [[2]]: 50 fixed residents, 200-1000 daily visitors;

Rejuvenative Sandwich [[3]]: 3000㎡,500 daily visitors;

NEW sPARKs [[4]]: 30 hotel rooms, 40 residents, 100 visitors;

lusthof [[5]]: 80 daily(night) visitors;

  • Reizen Drijvende Markt [[6]]: 1000 daily visitors;

Variations [[7]]: 100-200 daily visitors;

DwellingGrower [[8]]: 40 fixed residents;

Water Morphs [[9]]: 100-200 daily visitors;

  • Floating Theater [[10]]: 500-600 per show.

After all it is nearly impossible to predict the a precised number. But considering the needs of the projects with "*", especially the Theater, the transport amount within 30min would better exceed 600. That is, if 1 ferry carries 150 passengers, we 4 ferries in half an hour, at least in rush hours. And project like Lusthof attract special visitors at certain time. Let me see if I can get them some international tourists!

Project-object(s)

Connection to Rotterdam Heijplaat shipping line [11]

- As the Transportation Hub, this project should be connected directly and physically to the shipping line

Connection to the village Heijplaat [12]

- The Transportation Hub will assume the doorway of the village

Connection to passageway from harbour to village [13]

- The direction pedestrians come from

Connection to derelict Pier [14]

- The Pier could be re-used as part of the construction in the proposal

transportation-transportation(s)

In a transport space, interactions frequently happen between different transportation. The following diagram tries to understand the feasible transport and transfer in the space.

1, land, water, sky

2, transport speed, size, amount, tide

3, public or private

4, dwell time
