VENI-VIDI-Hotel

Main Interaction

Project 14 - hotel principe.jpg Styldiagram 22.jpg

Conventional hotels can be divided into a public rooms, like a restaurant, foyer, service desk, swimming pool etc., and the more private room, like the bedroom and bathroom. The public activities are situated within the VFood-restaurant, and the private activities in the floating coloured spheres of the Veni-Vidi project. The foyer, the service desk, the luggage room, the toilets and the restaurant are integrated within the VFood-restaurant building (project 22). If hotelvisitors want to go to the swimming pool or market, they can float or walk to the Variatons project (project 24) or the the Sepac project (project 8). The hotel activities within the VFood-restaurant are designed in the Veni-Vidi style (steel honeylike pattern and sails). This leads to unique spots in the foyer.

Connection with the RDM and neighbours

The VFood-restaurants is connected to the 'Rejuvenative Sandwich' (leftside of the left image) and 'De geleerde netwerk' (right side of the left image). The scaffolds, that people will use to get to their hotelroom, are formed in such a way that the spheres can float through and boundaries given by the neighbours are followed.

Service desk and foyer

The clash of the voronoi- and veni-vidi style becomes visible in the room, where the service desk and foyer are situated. The steel diamond/honeylike pattern of the Veni-Vidi facade is visible in the wall of a voronoicell, the service desk itself and the glass floor beneath the couches. The sails are visible in the topplate of the service desk and around the couches. The luggageroom and toilets are situated underneath the stair.

The scaffold

In order to reach the hotelrooms, people have to cross the scaffold. The scaffold has an open pergola profile with a sail-railing.

Walking over the sails

People can walk over the sails to different projects, other Veni-Vidi-spheres or the rdm site itself. The doorheight (2,3 m on ground floor and first floor) and width of the steel structure is specially designed, that a door can be placed in a glass cell.

Interaction of and for the user

Project14-togethertwo.jpg Project 14 -overloop.jpg

The sails of the Veni-Vidi hotels interact with the sun load and the user of the coloured spheres. When the sun-radiation is high the sails close. Because the spheres can rotate easily, due the water, the sails don't have to be closed whole the time. When privacy is needed in an hotelroom, all 4 sail columns of the hotelroom can be closed.

The collapsable wall and the floor that can move up and down, increases the amount of activities that can be held in the spheres. When all 5 hotelunits are connected, the building can turn into a large exposition building, with a big stair formed by the slabs.
