Sails
The sphere has a floating base, comparable to the bottom of a ship where the bottom narrows to reduce water resistance. The polyester is watertight. The center wall is made out of concrete, the boat gains stability when the heaviest load is in the center of the building. 4 Steel spants are fixed to the base (lowest part) and centerwalls (highest part). Underneath the fixed slabs a steel cross is attached to the steel ring. The steelring prevents the 4 steel spants to rotate. The outer facade gets his stability from the steel spants.
Main structure
In the maquette, I tried to let the sail system work with ropes. I figured out that every steel pipe (where the sails are stretched between) need a control rope for it's own. One rope to tighten and another rope to deliver the counter force. The folds in the sails, give the sail the ability to stretch and shrink.
