Floating Theater

author(s):Léon Spikker, Andrew Gooden

Summary

The Floating Theatre is a revolutionary concept, freeing both actors and spectators from the confines of the traditional auditorium. By combining It is an organic structure, able to shrink or expand in response to changing economic, social and climatic conditions. The Innovation Dock serves as an on-site production facility, providing stage and building components as well as stage props. The currently obsolete cranes connect this area to the theatre space, by moving heavy stage construction, and may also act as a performance object or "fly tower".

Internally, the project consists of a matrix of 'submarines'. These are small platforms which are able to be lowered (or raised) by the addition (or removal) of water. These then form the seating, the stage and the pools (when submarines are lowered below water level) which define the auditorium space.
