Interactions: Overview
Interactions: Market - Projects
Based on the interactions diagram above, there are 4 tiers, or strengths of interaction with other projects on the RDM site:
01 - Physical / Access / Customers - these are the immediate neighbours of the market, that provide the strongest connections within the dock, including physical links and continuation of routes through the market and across the site;
02 - Supply - projects across the site that supply products for sale on the market stalls;
03 - Customers - these locations generate custom for the market and social hubs;
04 - Transport - by providing transport links around the site and to the city beyond, these projects bring visitors from further afield;
01 Physical / Access / Customers
The market will form a physical link with this neighbouring project to the south, which will provide study and social spaces for students of the adjacent RDM campus. By linking the projects' promenades users will be able to diffuse between the complimentary activities.
Another physical link wil be established with this innovative performance space along the dockside to the north. The market will provide promenade links that allow users to access the entertainment on offer here, whilst the projects have complimentary aims in attracting social users into the dock throughout the day.
This comprises the final physical link and it extends the east-west route across the market onwards to other locations across the dock. The residents of Lusthof will be able to use the market for their daily shopping, plus it will provide alternative social locations outside of their work.
02 Supply
A key aim of the market will be to source and sell locally produced food and other items, in order to maximise its sustainability. This nearby project will grow various foodstuffs which can then be sold within the market by selected traders. This project will also allow market stalls to be moored at it remotely, thereby extending the market across the dock.
Another nearby project that will produce foodstuffs, these can then be sold within the market.
This is a vertical garden with opportunities for any foodstuffs produced to be sold by gardeners at the market.
03 - Customers
As a key venue providing offices, a community centre and commercial space, this will generate footfall from local residents and visitors. The market will provide access routes across the dock to this location, hence will in turn receive custom from these users.
Market : Buildings
(RDM Campus) Innovation Dock
One of the former manufacturing facilities of the shipyard, this large internal space now offers flexible facilities for companies to start-up or expand their product development and manufacture. It is situated alongside the dock and is able to offer working spaces of various areas that are supplied with services (power, water, etc) and that have access to the existing overhead lifting cranes.
This facility would be an ideal operational base for the project, enabling both initial component manufacture and assembly, as well as ongoing maintenance and logistics – for example servicing and repair of the floating market modules.
