SEPAC - Scalable Exhibition and Performative Arts Center

Summary
This project creates an unique space for cultural activities. Fully flexible space, which can change not only the arrangement of the exhibition surface, but can also shrink and grow according to spatial, physical and environmental needs.
Internal space - elements
The surface of exhibition/performance is made out of multiple elements which can change its elevation in reference to neighbors. This gives the possibility to dynamically create podiums, stages, sitting places, tables, exposition furniture and even continuous amphitheatre seating. This concept is based on swarm intelligence scheme.
External adaptive skin - scalability
The building itself is made in very particular way, which enables it to grow and shrink, according to spatial needs. This allows to organize an event in any scale, using the same infrastructure and being able to achieve most effective configuration of area and volume of exhibition/performance hall.
External adaptive skin - construction
Constructed as a composite shell made out of tiles, overlapping like a fish scales. Dimensions of the shell can be altered by changing tiles overlap. Dynamic and smooth shape is achieved by differencing shape of tiles and possible amount of overlap. Actuators build into the skin adjust the dimensions in a way which reflects current usage of the space. Here also swarm intelligence concept is used to ensure smooth operation of the whole structure.
