FLEXIBLE WATER TRANSIT

author(s):Sarah Jean Roberts

Summary

In order to provide a revolutionary water transit system, an adaptive, mobile entity which is malleable and flexible is crucial. This system would be non-pollutive, affordable, reconfigurable, and perhaps modular or even self-deployable. The design would provide platforms to circulate people through a wet environment and forge connections over or through the water.

As a flexible mechanism, this design would be capable of connecting all disparate buildings and installations present in the harbour - not just this Rotterdam harbour in particular - but as a universally-applicable solution for harbours worldwide. The system would forge temporary links where desired, regardless of activity or function, allowing people to travel to and from any point and cross the harbour freely, in a multitude of configurations and directions.

The design would be ideally quickly constructed and deconstructed and easily transported. The path direction could be defined and reconfigured by users with different needs, allowing the user to participate and interact with the transit system in line with personal preferences. Participation modes might include navigating, pathfinding, powering, tack-on, tack-off, etc.
